01 | Permaculture Garden
We employ various techniques to allow plants to thrive naturally, without using pesticides or chemical fertilizers. For example, to prevent crops from struggling when planted in the same spot year after year, we practice crop rotation by growing different crops each year. We also plant companion plants that support each other’s growth, enjoying a life connected to agriculture through continuous trial and error.

02 | Composting
All organic waste generated at ëighten is composted and returned to the garden soil. The waste from our daily lives enriches the soil, which in turn produces the food we eat, ultimately returning to the earth. Living this way, as part of nature’s cycle, reminds us that we, too, are a part of the natural world.

03 | Recycling Waste Materials
In our restoration of the traditional farmhouse, we recycle soil and wood that comes from the house’s dismantling. Beams rescued from nearby demolition sites have been transformed into counter stools and benches, while doors have become tables and signs. We carefully preserve these materials, used for over a century, so they can be passed on for another hundred years.

04 | Solar Water Heater
We heat water using the sun’s energy instead of gas. This means we can enjoy hot showers powered solely by solar energy, both in summer and winter, making it environmentally friendly and economical. However, on days when the sun doesn’t shine due to rain, hot water supply can be less stable, so we recommend nearby hot springs for guests who wish to soak comfortably.
